1. What is Garnet?
Garnet is a data conversion tool which helps the user to convert the data generated from ERP into IRIS Format. This eases the return filing process and reduces manual effort of data preparation.
2. What is the scope of Garnet?
User can convert the data for GSTR-1, GSTR-2, and GSTR-6 and Counterparty Master. He can also perform Structural validations.
3. What are the functions of Garnet?
Following functions have been included in Garnet:
i) Data conversion using simple regular expressions.
ii) Performing Structural validations
iii) In case any value related to regular transactions is entered in negative then the same gets converted to positive
iv) In case the values are beyond two decimal points then they get rounded off to two decimal points
v) In case there is any special character in the data then the same gets removed.
vi) In case invoice value is not present then the same can be calculated.
vii) In case anyone wants to convert CSV to Excel it can be done using Garnet.
4. How do Data Preparation works?
User is required to create a rule file. By uploading this rule file and the data generated from ERP the user can convert the data in IRIS Format in one single click.
5. How to Perform Validations?
If the data is in IRIS Format and the user wants to view the list of more than 100 validations in one go, then by uploading the data and clicking on Prepare/Validate data the user can get the list of all validations.
6. What is ERP Output?
The data generated by user from his ERP is called as ERP output. There is no specific format in which this data is required.
7. What is Rule file?
User will have to map all mandatory fields of IRIS Format with ERP Output. For mapping, he will have to mention whether the data needs to be pulled directly or with some changes or whether the data needs to be derived. This will not be as a simple text; it will be in the form of regular expressions. These regular expressions should be stored in an XML file. We call this XML file a rule file.
8. What is Sheet No?
A file may contain single or various sheets. The number of the sheet whose data needs to be converted or validated needs to be entered in this option.
9. What is Header No?
The headers for each column are must map the data as per IRIS Format. Hence the row on which headers is mentioned its number needs to be entered here.
10. What are the mandatory fields of Garnet?
In the case of GSTR-1 & GSTR-6 following fields are mandatory:

11. How to Create Rule File?
The user will upload the ERP output, select the return type and section type and start writing regular expressions. This is will create the rule file.
12. What is Section?
There are various input formats which need to be filled to upload data in IRIS Sapphire. For example, in case of GSTR-1, the data should have details of regular transactions in one sheet, details of advances in other, details of HSN Summary in third sheet and details of documents issued in fourth sheet. We call these sheets as sections.
13. What is Master Rule?
Certain pre-defined rules are present in Garnet. On the basis of the data, the user needs to select the master rule from the drop down and he will get the regular expression with respect to the master rule selected by him.
14. What is Column Mapping?
This is a master rule wherein Garnet will map the ERP output column with the IRIS Format column and the data will be pulled directly as it is present in ERP Output. Here only one column from ERP Output needs to be selected.
15. What is Conditional Mapping?
This is an if-else rule where the data of ERP Output will be mapped in IRIS Format by applying some pre-defined conditions. Here user can select more than column from ERP Output.
16. What is Terminology Mapping?
This is a switch-case rule. This is useful in such cases where the column is present in ERP Output but the terms used in ERP and IRIS Format differs. After selecting this rule, user needs to mention the terms used in ERP in front of terms used in IRIS Format. Here user can select only one column from ERP Output.
17. What are Standard Rules?
These are the pre-defined rules which user need not select. They are directly applied to the data and make the data more compliant for GST Filing.
18. Which Standard Rules are included in Garnet?
Following standard rules are included in Garnet:
i) In case Alt+Enter is present in any cell of ERP Output same gets converted to space. -This runs before the rule of XML file run on the data.
ii) In case any monetary value is given in negative the same gets converted to positive. This will run after data gets converted in IRIS Format.
iii) In case the values post decimals exceed two digits then those are rounded off till two digits. This will also run after the data is converted.
19. What are the Rules for References?
There are chances that the master rule will not fit for a particular column. In such cases, the user will have to write his own rule. We have created a guide of all such unique rules used so far and the same has been mentioned in Rules for References sections. This will help the user to write his own rule.
20. Say I have selected Terminology Mapping for a column but now I want to change it to Conditional Mapping, can I do the same? How?
Yes, Edit Rule option is available. But in case of Master Rule needs to be changed then after clicking on Edit Rule option the user will have to first delete the columns of ERP which he had selected in the rule. Then he can add the column(s) which he wants to map and select the Master Rule for the same.
21. How to remove special characters from invoice number/change negative values to positive/limit decimal to two points?
Select to Prepare Data, upload the data which have special characters in invoice number/wherein negative values are there/values with more than two decimal points are there, upload blank rule file and click on Prepare/Validate Data. The output will get generated in the same folder in which data was kept. This output will not have any special character in invoice number/negative value/values with more than two decimal points.
22. How to create a Blank rule file?
Go to Create Rule file option. Do not upload any data or enter Sheet no or Header no. Simply select the return type and section type for which blank rule file is to be created and click on Generate Rule file. Blank rule file will get created.
23. What is Calculate Sum?
In case invoice value is not present in data, the user can calculate it using Calculate Sum.
24. How does Calculate Sum work?
User needs to upload his data, enter row no, header no and select dimensions and parameters and click on Calculate Value. The user will get an additional column in the uploaded data called Total which will be the invoice value.
25. What are the dimensions?
The unique fields used to differentiate one invoice with another are termed as dimensions.
26. What are the parameters?
The columns which need to be summed up to calculate invoice value are called as parameters.
27. What is Data Consolidation?
In case the user wants to consolidate multiple CSV’s into a single excel file he can use the option Data Consolidation.
28. How does Data Consolidation work?
User needs to zip single/multiple CSV’s into a folder and upload the zipped folder and click on Consolidate data. The consolidated excel file will be available in the same location where the zipped folder is placed.
29. How to Convert CSV to Excel?
Zip the CSV file(s); go to Data Consolidation option available in Data Preparation and upload the zipped folder and click on Consolidate data. The CSV file(s) present in the zipped folder will not just be converted to excel but will also be consolidated.
30. What is Check rule?
In case the user wants to check based on the information inputted in his data what will come in Output. He can use Check rule option. Here the user will enter values as per his data and by clicking on Validate he will get to see what will come in the output file.
